Preparing for Symposioum
In class presentationsThe in class presentation is part of a long series of presentations for my students, as we've been developing these skills all through the year. I love presentations, and I love them for too many reasons to list. Each presentation that we do throughout the year is increasingly more challenging. The first one is a 2 to 3 min. little guy, and this final symposium presentation is a 10 to 12 min whopper. Check the rubric for more information.
I teach a 5 part approach to presentations: research communicate visual aid script practice At this point in the project, they've already identified and "researched" their topic, and many of them have a lot of raw materials for their "visual aid." So, we spend this week looking through traditional visual aid techniques as well as digital. I introduce resources like Prezi, Powtoon, Slide dog, Google Slides, Keynote, movie maker, and other online VA resources as well as print materials. Second to last, we work on script. The script is targeted to be synchronized with the VA, so these have to develop nearly simultaneously, they're not as independent of each other as some might like to think. Lastly, I create an assignment in Google Classroom for them to record and turn in their practice video. This is due before the day that they present. I create and post the presentation lineup to Google Classroom, so that they can all see it. Journal Entries from this week |
