Monday we got lucky and were down in the library media center, what we call the LMC in our school. I introduced the new component of this week, the research article. from a request from the students, I put a "plain and simple" section at the end of my detailed rubrics. This response calls for a 4 paragraph research summary. Paragraph 1 is an intro that claims the maid idea of the article. Paragraph 2 supports the claim with 2 quoted pieces of evidence from the text. Paragraph 3 additionally supports the claim from 2 other quoted pieces from the text. The final paragraph, paragraph 4 summarizes the main idea claim.
I also reviewed our interview assignment that is due on Friday. Because this one may take longer to set up, I introduced it last week. The goal is to build on their knowledge of question types. I reviewed closed and open questions and introduced declarative questions. I set a quota for the assignment that they should ask 4 closed, 4 open, and 2 declarative questions. They'll type their questions and answers in a Google doc and submit their work into the Google Classroom assignment.
